The Kept Rat Rattery: Rat Pick-Up Policy

Policy Overview:

At The Kept Rat Rattery, we prioritize the well-being of our rats and strive to ensure they transition to their new homes smoothly and promptly. To facilitate this, we have established a pick-up policy for all adopters. This policy outlines the timeline for rat pick-up, associated fees for delayed pick-up, and expectations for communication and punctuality.

Pick-Up Timeline:

  • Adopters are required to pick up their rats within one week of the specified go-home date.
  • A grace period of 7 days from the go-home date is provided to accommodate scheduling needs.

Holding Fee for Delayed Pick-Up:

  • In cases where rats are not picked up within the one-week grace period, a holding fee of $10 per week will be incurred.
  • This fee compensates for the cost of space, care, time, food, and water required to continue housing the rat beyond the agreed-upon timeframe.
  • The accumulated holding fee will be added to the remaining balance, which must be settled in full before or at the time of pick-up.

Communication and Punctuality:

  • Punctuality for pick-up appointments is crucial. It respects the time and schedules of all parties involved.
  • If adopters anticipate delays due to traffic or other unforeseen circumstances, a text message must be sent to inform us of the situation as soon as possible.
  • Failure to communicate delays or not showing up for the agreed-upon meetup time will result in the nullification of the rat’s reservation. (Within 20 minutes of the agreed upon time if no prior communication has been sent to indicate possible delay).
  • Under these circumstances, the reservation fee previously paid will be non-refundable.

Rescheduling Due to Late Pickup and Unavailability:

  • We understand that unforeseen circumstances can affect both the adopter’s and our availability at the scheduled pick-up time. To accommodate this, we commit to a waiting period of 20 minutes beyond the agreed-upon meet-up time.
  • If, for any reason, an adopter cannot arrive within this 20-minute window and has not provided prior notice, or if we are unable to wait beyond this period due to prior commitments, the pick-up appointment will need to be rescheduled.
  • It is crucial for adopters to understand that in such scenarios, The Kept Rat Rattery is not at fault for the inability to complete the pick-up as initially planned. Rescheduling will be subject to our availability and may incur additional holding fees as outlined in the “Holding Fee for Delayed Pick-Up” section of this policy.
  • We encourage open and timely communication to minimize the need for rescheduling and to ensure a smooth pick-up process for your new pet.

Reservation Nullification:

  • It’s important to note that not showing up for the scheduled pick-up without prior communication will lead to the cancellation of the rat’s reservation.
  • The initial reservation fee will not be refunded, underscoring the importance we place on commitment and respect for our time, the potential adopters that missed out on the chance to adopt requested rat(s), and the care provided to our rats.
